Paganini Ensemble Wien

The quartet’s essence conveyed through design

about

This project was created for a Vienna-based string quartet known for performing the exceptional and rarely heard works of Paganini. The ensemble approached me with a need for a full visual identity, a concert brochure for distribution to managers and opera houses, and a website that would serve as their digital calling card for a global audience.

Challenge

The primary challenge was translating the unique character of the quartet — virtuosity combined with elegance and a fresh, modern energy — into a coherent visual language. The website needed to be bilingual and refined, while also making a strong emotional impact. It had to reflect both the sophistication of classical music and the quartet's contemporary approach to performance.

Collaboration

We began the project with in-depth research: analyzing the classical music market, reviewing how other ensembles present themselves, and identifying the specific needs of the quartet. What began as an idea for a minimal, simple website quickly evolved into a more extensive structure that would fully represent the group’s identity and growing international presence. We worked closely together to define the key elements of the site: musician bios, concert calendar with ticket links, press features, a gallery of approved media images for journalists, a discography with purchase links, and a contact section.

Solution

Visually, the entire project was built around the essence of the music: dramatic, elegant, and timeless. I chose a bold black background combined with white serif typography to create a strong, refined contrast. The color palette, fonts, and layout were all inspired by the worlds of opera, classical concert halls, and historical prestige — yet treated with a clean, modern sensibility.

The structure of the website was designed to guide visitors seamlessly through each essential area: from meeting the musicians and discovering upcoming concerts to reading press coverage and exploring their discography. The carefully selected imagery — musicians dressed in black, illuminated against dark backgrounds, smiling and interacting naturally — communicates not only excellence but also their dynamic and accessible interpretation of Paganini.

Alongside the website, I created a concert brochure with a consistent visual language: rich black backgrounds, elegant typesetting, and a layout designed for both aesthetic impact and practical use during events. The entire project resulted in a strong, unified brand presence that visually amplifies the quartet’s artistic voice and sets them apart in the classical music scene.
